Joey
3-6-2024
Cancer is evil… About a month ago Joey became very sick and we found out he had splenic cancer. We removed his spleen and that gave him life for a few more weeks. We had hope that we had more time with this sweet boy. After Surgry he was doing so good! He started wanting to play again! He took a horrible turn all of a sudden… 13 yrs ago this boy showed up. He knew that we needed him in our lives. He chose us. He was the best dog… So gentle and kind…. He was the one that I learned a lot of my vet med skills on. He was sooooo good to my kids. They could crawl all over him and he wouldn’t bat an eye. He was so loved and will be missed. Until we meet again…. Catch those rabbits you couldn’t never get..
Celebrating the Life of Miss Molly Logan
12/29/2007 – 02/01/2023
Our most wonderful journey began in March of 2008 when we adopted Miss Molly Logan from the Wake County SPCA in NC. Never could we have imagined the joy, laughter, adventures, companionship, and endless love she brought into our lives.
From day one, our world revolved around Molly. She was the center of our lives and was part of absolutely everything. As much as she loved to be with us, we loved being with her, and an inseparable journey began.
Molly loved companionship and all the people in her life. She soaked up attention and enjoyed being at the center of everything. She was literally right in the middle of every family event, whether it was lying in the center below the dining table or being right in the middle of unwrapping presents at Christmas, going for group walks, or just being close to us no matter where we were.
A few of Molly’s favorite things were playing in her pool, swimming in lakes, and she loved to dive for sticks and bring them proudly a shore. She loved learning and showing her tricks – some over 10 commands. Snow was one of her obsessions; she could not get enough of it. Winter was her favorite time of year. She made countless snow angels, enjoyed eating it, running through it and laying in it while it was snowing or soaking up the sunshine from the warm winter sun. Winters in our home were a bit crazy because as soon as she came in from outside, not 10 minutes later would she want to go back out to enjoy it. She also loved adventures such as going to the park, hiking in the mountains, taking car rides to the hardware store, and road trips to see family. Her favorite place was always with us, and she enjoyed the comforts of home surrounded by her family. She loved to help cook in the kitchen and bbq on the back deck, help in the garden, going for walks, exploring the fields (especially after the farmer made hay), and spending quality time under her apple tree where she could watch everything. Hot summer days were spent indoors on top of AC vents, where Molly liked to cool her belly and with a personal Molly fan that traveled to various locations in the house with her. She also loved her doggie ice cream on those days to cool off. Molly was never really food motivated as she loved human affection more, but she liked her treat time: playing with her treat-stuffed toys, asking for goodies from her cabinet, and eating dinner, which was only considered dinner if it was topped with ground deer.. Thankfully for a devoted dad and hunter, Molly always had deer. Fall and the cool air brought out her spunky side when she enjoyed time outdoors with us and playing in leaves (she loved leaf hills to jump and roll in).
Molly had a great way of communicating, which made her so special to be around. Our lives were so much better because she was in it. The memories we made in the last 15 years, one month and three days, will never be forgotten and she will forever live in our hearts until one day we meet again.

Ronin was such a sweet boy. He was unusually loving for a Husky, he would flop over and cuddle up next to you. If you were petting him and stopped, he would paw and want more. He loved going anywhere and just wanted to be with his people. He always had a smile on his face. Just a goofy, lovable boy and he will me missed!

Lucky
20?? – March 22, 2019
Male
Breed: DSH
I can’t even begin to explain what I am feeling today as I’ve had to say goodbye to Mr. Lucky. We found each other at very difficult times in both of our lives – he became my companion and I gave him a home. After my divorce, I had shared custody of my only child every other week and found that the emptiness in my home was so loud and heartbreaking when my son was not there. An acquaintance knew someone who had found this cat, starving and lost in the woods during February of 2011, and he needed a home. I went to look at him the next day during my lunch break and after work, I went to pick him up. I knew the instant I saw him that he needed me just as much as I needed him. I brought him home and he walked right in like he owned the place. I think he was so grateful to finally have a warm home with plenty of food and an abundance of love. He’s made me laugh, he’s cuddled with me when I cried, he’s frustrated me at times, and he showed me how to be strong again. And being strong is what helped me make the decision to say goodbye and peacefully release him from his pain and suffering. I’ve had to do this many times before but this time, it has been very hard to reach this decision because of the bond we share and the reasons we came to each other. It is hurting my heart today to know that he will no longer be with me but I know he is now at peace. I love you Mr. Lucky and I will never forget what you did for me – you filled my loneliness and eased my heartache and in it’s place, you gave me love and hope for a brighter future. <3

Mishka
February 23, 2013 – January 31, 2019

Mishka, the best guardian and friend I could of asked for. He was an old sole who was the easiest animal to train, taught him something once and he had it mastered. Mishka loved being at the horse farm, tracking and hanging out with family. He will forever have a part of my heart. Thank you Hickory Ridge for all of your wonderful care and keeping this big guy going so he could enjoy a full life. Rest in Peace Mish.
